BATTERED IDENTITY

We reached the end. I cannot comprehend, how we docked on this island, that feels doctored by unseen forces. Surrounded by waves of deceit, regret and anger. Pushing and pulling, an endless cycle.

Acknowledging and accepting our individual and shared mistakes seem a too bitter pill to swallow. Seeing you for the first time, unmasked by love, kindness and gentleness you once had, left me shaking and terrified of your true form. The gentlemanly routine you had, had me to a capital t.

I was always cautioned to be ware of monsters with tails, snapping jaws and firery eyes, the things of horror movies but never expected one with charming smiles, unending compliments, gorgeous hair and a body that could that could charm a nun out of her robes.

A succubus camouflaging as humane. Only to suck you dry of humanity. Taking, taking and taking just never giving. Hidden too well by societal expectations that to be honest are never upto per. Tiny sharp teeth in the form of manipulation, narcissism and emotional blackmail. Biting at my self esteem, tearing into my self worth. Taking chunk by chunk of my soul for your satisfaction. Feeding your ego into unmeasurable lengths. Suffocating everyone around you.

Like a deer caught in headlights, I watched you lead me into Hades. Beady eyes wide open albeit shiny with tears that could barely fall as if trying to hold in my dignity and glue together my pride.

The state of shock afforded you my obedience. Fear bought you my free will , fully paid for and some change to boot. Shame assured you of my full submission. The final nail to the proverbial coffin.
Survival stories inspire and motivate but this isn't one of those. Left behind, a stain on your coat, destined to be washed down the drain. Just another notch on your bedpost. An ego boost in your endless pursuit of evil intent. A dose to boost your masculinity.Your power train bought me a ride to hell. Unwilling, unaware but still a passenger with no return ticket.

Now I know what monsters look like. They are not Vikings raiding your town. Not pirates sinking your ship. They are not beasts breathing fire, snapping jaws and swiping tails of steel. They are not the devil whispering in your ears. Only thing they have in common is the destruction they leave behind. So be ware of the monsters within and about. They creep in slowly and attack you unaware. You wouldn't know what hit you.
